Box design processing...

This is where my box design has been going. starting from back bottom left, to the front right one in the foreground being the latest (and the one I like the most) I am having trouble with the calendar. you can kind of see how i was playing with the design (on the bottom one) adding lots of color, and I had 2009 written so painstakingly in yerba mate, but I think I am going to revisit the original design. because less ink matters. What do y'all think?

Learning Deficiency reading

I think the reason for not teaching sustainability, is care. (lack of research) The teacher, the student, the audience has to care about this positive change. I think that the "cool" factor does not really exist enough. What we need is the "This is more than cool, this is the future" factor to play its part. I think the educators need to really come to a realization that this is really important in our field, and that its something that needs to be taught to everyone, not just obtained by the few, true individuals.

I believe certain little things can easily be taught, and not affect the curriculum like knowledge on materials, process, waste etc.

Design communicates! Designers can communicate this need for change. Also, we can invest our time and talent into companies that actually make a difference. Design helps companies exceed. I think that this kinda sucks, unless the company stands for something. (designing for seventh generation vs. mcdonalds) Designers are trend setters... but some trends need to be set in stone. We need to adjust peoples "way of seeing"

We need "transdisciplinary teaching structures, and the capacity to integrate and seek out knowledge well beyond isolated professional disciplines". Also the teaching of students to excell in the marketplace, but also have to skills to remake that same marketplace. We need to be taught design, and ethics.

quick package ideas, and shot of hemp pouch

Hey designers,
I just thought I'd post some quick package ideas I have have been thinking of... I want to incorporate the texture of either the hemp canvass, or the yerba mate itself (probably the mate) because I think that this texture will help connect everything together...(if i incorporate a texture on the outside of the box, the calendar, and then on the pouch labels in some way, it will certainly give me some more continuity). I received my fabric today, and sewed together a pouch... I kinda like the rustic-ness of the amateur hand sewing haha. (Im sorry I am no good with a machine, I think I would sew my fingers together or something) anyways I am excited to recieve the fabric, I really love the color of it. I just got to figure out how the label will work. (belly band?) ( I think I need to get my hands on this hemp paper, I am very curious about its durability and flexibility.

Hemp fabric and first calendar mock-up

I just ordered some hemp canvass material, that I will Cut and sew into 3 pouches, one for each flavor of mate. I think that each pack should be fairly large... probably a little taller and wider than the box set.

heres what the fabric will look like.

Here is a picture of the calendar so far... the design isn't much different than before, except for some color... I was just curious to see it in 3d.

New Box sketches

This is a quick sketch of what I am thinking for the exterior of my box. I want to use minimal ink (to compensate for ink usage on inside...), display the brand, and an illustration of the box's contents. Copy on sides and back of box will inform the person of yerba mate, how to brew it, steep time etc. Also there will be copy explaining and instructing the person to gently tear apart the seam, and reconstruct the box inside-out, revealing a modern little desk calendar the can be cherished for months to come. (see below image)

Repurposing my box....

We'll I have been stuck on how to repurpose my box. I was just going to focus on making it very minimal and biodegradable, but then I realized I really should repurpose it because making something thats useful is far greater than something that is just trashworthy. even if it's just temporarily useful

Then I started to think as I started playing with this box I got at the hardware store... The box has one seam where its held together by glue. after gently tearing to reveal the inside of the box... I started to think about how the inside of boxes are always forgotten about... "the lost side". So then I started thinking some more, and decided to design something on the inside of the box... So i would have the awaken package design on one side, and maybe a calendar on the other. The person would be instructed to tear apart the seam, and simply reconstruct the box in reverse, revealing a cool little modern looking stand-up desk calendar that they can keep for a little while instead of just throwing it out. everyone needs a calendar! even you have a phone or a computer, having a calendar around could be handy...

New colors, New font

I tweaked the gourd a little bit, tried to smooth things out some more. I decided to go a little bit bolder and stay away from green as the main color. I am having some trouble with the supporting text here though. Not really sure what to do with it yet.

A haggard little mock-up

This is what I originally envisioned the box to look like. Well not this ragged, and not with computer paper and crayola markers, but I was curious to see it in 3d. After receiving the bombilla I realized they are a decent amount larger than the gourd. the design of the box will have to be pretty drastically different then this. I might even have to package it in a completely different way. hmmmmmm
